'Every child has the right to learn'

There are around 8 million children under the age of 6 years living in slums in India. The number of slum children (5 -18 yrs old) out of school is around 23 million. Access to early childhood care, balanced nutrition, education, health, and recreational facilities are keys to the positive development of a child.

It is well-known fact that children studying in Govt schools in India suffer from ‘learning poverty’, as a ten years old child cannot read a short and age-appropriate story with comprehension. This is an early warning that the ‘every child reading’ goal will not be attained by 2030 with the end of the time set for SDGs.

PAF works with the slum children to ensure that every child completes his/her primary and secondary education without any disruption. For achieving this objective, PAF provides necessary resources to children that include learning, play, and growing, it also ensures that children acquire necessary skills and develop self-confidence to match with other economically better-off children in school.

PAF provides supplementary education support to all the children enrolled in our project. There are qualified teachers who help children in doing their homework and understanding subjects in case they need help or feel it is difficult to understand a chapter of a book or any subject.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an increasingly important role in the lives of children, however, there are still inequalities based on gender, economic conditions of parents, the schools of children, and other related factors. It is vital for children coming from a disadvantaged class of society to accept the computer as a natural part of everyday life. Using age-appropriate software, PAF aims to familiarise children with the basic use of the computer.

PAF provides scholarships to bright and needy children so that they cannot drop out of school due to monetary constraints but instead complete their education.

Children of Nigam Pratibha Vidyalaya, Ashok Vihar, New Delhi were very happy and excited after receiving educational kits distributed by Proaction Foundation as this was the first time when an NGO visited this school, interacted with students, encouraged them for education, and distributed educational kits to all the students (one another organization SARD teaches math and language to the children of this school). At present, this school has 1102 students from Nursery to Class 5th and most of them belong to deprived communities and live in slums and resettlement areas and their parents work as daily wage workers, cleaners, helpers, and other similar jobs. This is a co-educational Govt. school that comes under Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD).

The program started with a welcome address by the School Administrator, which was then followed by a dance performance by a group of children from the school followed by a role play on ‘Right to Education” by a group of volunteers. At the end of the programs, Proaction Foundation presented a trophy to Mrs. Vanita Bajaj, the Principal of the school for effective school management. This was followed by the distribution of the educational kits to all the children. Children were very happy after receiving educational items. After the distribution, the school Principal thanked Proaction Foundation for the support extended to their children through this activity.
