'Every child has the right to learn'

To say that India’s public school education system is in deep crisis is an understatement. A growing body of evidence, including the Annual Status of Education Reports from the esteemed Pratham Education Foundation also highlight the persistent and ongoing neglect of education, particularly in early childhood and primary education.

Approximately 8 million children under the age of 6 live in slums across India, and around 23 million children aged 5 to 18 are out of school. Access to early childhood care, balanced nutrition, education, health services, and recreational facilities is crucial for a child's positive development.

With the vision of creating an inclusive learning environment for slum children and ensuring they complete their primary and secondary education and getting them on the trajectory of good education, Proaction Foundation offers supplementary educational support initiatives to all children enrolled in our programs at Thane and Pune centres. We provide supplementary education through study and support classes in subjects such as English, Math, Science, Social Science, and the local language, Marathi as well. Additionally, we offer financial aid to help students continue their studies.

We also provide essential resources for learning, play, and personal growth, along with health services and recreational activities. This ensures that children receive a holistic education that encompasses both academic and extracurricular experiences. Such support is especially crucial for those who are neglected or underserved by government schools.

Qualified teachers are available to assist students with their homework and help them understand challenging subjects, as well as support them with the curriculum and assessments. This aids in identifying children with learning difficulties in mainstream classrooms. Our goal is to help these children acquire essential skills and build self-confidence to compete with their more affluent peers. Additionally, teacher training sessions are organized to make learning more engaging and content-based. The various teaching aids and learning materials designed by the trainers significantly enhance learning outcomes.

Children of Nigam Pratibha Vidyalaya, Ashok Vihar, New Delhi were very happy and excited after receiving educational kits distributed by Proaction Foundation as this was the first time when an NGO visited this school, interacted with students, encouraged them for education, and distributed educational kits to all the students (one another organization SARD teaches math and language to the children of this school). At present, this school has 1102 students from Nursery to Class 5th and most of them belong to deprived communities and live in slums and resettlement areas and their parents work as daily wage workers, cleaners, helpers, and other similar jobs. This is a co-educational Govt. school that comes under Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD).

The program started with a welcome address by the School Administrator, which was then followed by a dance performance by a group of children from the school followed by a role play on ‘Right to Education” by a group of volunteers. At the end of the programs, Proaction Foundation presented a trophy to Mrs. Vanita Bajaj, the Principal of the school for effective school management. This was followed by the distribution of the educational kits to all the children. Children were very happy after receiving educational items. After the distribution, the school Principal thanked Proaction Foundation for the support extended to their children through this activity.
